Watching fishes in the sky cause they are not on earth anymore – R. I. P.Nemo – Still thinking of you though!
(feel free to lay on the floor and look for nemo yourself)
Human kind should supposedly be used to the finalityof things. However, with the ongoing digitalization and information overload endings like death or depletion of resources seem like a far away bad dream that you tell kids to make them obey you. For now some of the fishes are still alive – still on earth and not so close to extinction as for example glaciers. When there is always a next episode or show on netflix to watch it is not sure that nemo will in reality still bein our lives in a few years. To realize finality of our own and the beings around us, it can help to look at the stars in order to feel ones own existence.

The godess of well-being would tell us to put our phones in prison while meditating at the hairdresser.
(feel free to take a sit on the mediation cushion, putyour phone in the hamster-prison and send a prayer tothe godess)
The human race is used to being in control of earth, weat the animals, we feel taste nice and keep the oneswe think are cute as domestic theraphists (e.g. cats anddogs). While we are certain that we are at the top of the food-chain we are blind to the unvisible chains that boundour hands and that are in fact controlled by our phones. On tiktok there are numerous videos that „teach“ ushow to be more mindful and keep our mental healthin check – and propose apps, which should help us toovercome procrastination. Maybe we should take advicefrom our prisoners and should in fact just put our pho-nes in prison instead and focus on the real experiencesthat further our well-being. Because the godess of well-being can only be found in reality and far away fromour smooth touch screens.

Nostalgia of different cities, diffe-rent times and different versions ofourselves.
Growing up is often seen as a consequence of gettingrid of childish behaviour and puerile attributes. While getting older comes with a lot of advantages the loss of our inner child is something that hunts us our whole life. The various responsibilities that add up each year: we travel around the sun, we sometimes tend to think about family holidays in italy when out biggest problem was if we were aloud to eat gelato after dinner or not. While there is no return to this nostalgic blissfulness, different time and different version of ourselves we should embrace the freedom that comes with age, meaning we can decide ourselves if we will get that gelato after dinner.

between arrival and departure
With all our worries and dreams we leave into the unkown. In a different city where we hope to find ourselves – or at least something that we can carry back. Between arrival and departure, a liminal space opens up. Time bends. There is this thrill of the new, all the surrealness of an unkown world rushes by. Stumbeling from feever dreams to pure joy, from excitment to dizziness. In awe of life and its surreality we watch and listen. We float and try to hold on to something fimilliar.
I held on to my camera. The photographs taken during my six months in NewYork City from September 2023 untill February 2024 led to the series ‘between arrival and departure’. Divided into seven parts, each part is accompanied by a phrase I saw, read, or wrote during that time. The photographs are an attempt to frame and capture the rush of being inbetween. Inbetween time. Between lifes and ideas of ourselves. Between dreams and realities. Between arrival and departure.
